Hutchins BBQ in Frisco. Have you been there? No? Well, let me just say: Oh. My. Word. That was some of the best BBQ that I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It is so good, you could even have it for breakfast.
Roy Hutchins, founder of Hutchins BBQ, a born and raised McKinneyite discovered his love of BBQ at the prime age of 14. One of his first jobs was at King’s BBQ in 1963 and that is where he fell in love with the sweet smoky aroma and flavors of smokehouses. Since Hutchins BBQ opened in 1978 it has been a family affair. Roy ran the pit, and his wife Delores took care of the books and finances. Sons Wes and Tracy cut their teeth, so to speak, helping mom and dad run the smokehouse. Wes had to stand on a milk crate to reach the cash register while Tracy, and later Tim, made the coleslaw, potato salad, and other sides. Now, grandson Nick has joined the management ranks and greeted us at the door.
