By Karen Thompson Walker
Santa Lora, Calif. is a small town like any other. It has neighborhoods like other towns. Parks and schools and stores too. Yes, Santa Lora is a town like any other.
Until Santa Lora isn’t like any other town. The virus infects just one student at first. Then it’s confined to a dorm and then to the college. Otherwise healthy people fall asleep and can’t be awakened.
The author takes us through the spread of the virus to the hospital, to the town, until it’s everywhere, describing the town’s panic-stricken response in calm, almost ethereal prose. An excellent book you’re sure to enjoy.
