One of the reasons for the popularity of golf in the state of Texas is because of its long, rich history due to the magnificent careers of gentlemen like Fort Worth’s Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson. Both were so revered in the sport that each have been closely associated with two PGA tour events here in North Texas (AT&T Byron Nelson and the Charles Schwab Challenge).
It’s been called the “Texas Two-Step” because every year for decades the best professional golfers in the world make their annual pilgrimage to DFW paying homage to Nelson & Hogan while trying to carve out their own legacy and add their names to those prestigious titles. Usually these events are conducted in back to back weeks, but this year the Nelson will be take place May 6-12, 2019 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. The Charles Schwab Challenge will be May 20-26 at the venerable Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
As a teenager growing up in Ohio, I read all the books I could about the great players from each era. I became fascinated with the exploits of Byron Nelson & Ben Hogan.
