An aroma of smoked meats and sweet treats will fill the largest downtown square in America on June 2 as almost 50 food trucks roll into Graham for the fourth annual “Food Truck Championship of Texas.”
Warm temperatures and fresh air greet the battle of the best food trucks in the Lone Star State. Food trucks travel from all over to compete at the event, bringing everything from homemade fire grilled pizza to Cajun gator bites along for the ride.
“Trucks come from all over the state so we get a good variety of all types of food,” said Jenea Knight, manager of the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau. “From Asian to Indian to your street tacos to dessert trucks, we have it all. Whatever you’re craving, we’ve got it here in one place.”
The event, presented by the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau, brings more than 10,000 people to the small town each year, located just 90 minutes west of Fort Worth in the beautiful North Texas Hill Country. Graham’s relaxed and welcoming atmosphere makes it the perfect place to enjoy a day of eating, entertainment and shopping.
“We wanted to bring an event to Graham and host it ourselves because we wanted to bring visitors from outside of Graham to come and visit and showcase our small-town charm,” explained Knight. “It has grown every year with something for everyone to enjoy the whole day. It really has become a great event.”
The event has grown by leaps and bounds as it enters its fourth year with visitors gathering for great food and tons of fun. Food vendors battle it out for the chance to win a $10,000 prize and bragging rights as Texas Food Truck Grand Champion.
The lucky judges include Kari Crowe Seher, owner of local ice cream shop MELTS in Fort Worth; Russell Kirkpatrick, general manager of Reata, one of Fort Worth’s most iconic restaurants and Richard King, co-owner and general manager and wine aficionado at Ellerbe Fine Foods, a farm-to-table restaurant and market in Fort Worth’s Near Southside district.
Food vendors will battle it out for not only the prize as grand champion, but also Best Signature Dish, Best Dessert, Best BBQ, Best American Dish, Best International Dish, Best Food Truck Theme and Design, Most Unique Menu and Best Food Truck Spirit.
